It’s the oldest and largest protected area in Africa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of the most spectacular wildlife population. Elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, many kinds of antelopes, hippos and crocodiles occur in large numbers on the planet. Wild dogs, lions and leopard are common, and some visitors may even be lucky enough to sight rhino. Over 400 different species also make the Selous a dream destination for birdwatchers.
